July 2, 2018: 81 years of lies in the Earhart case

For the few who pay attention to the ongoing saga of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, today marks another year’s passing, the 81st, and it’s not been uneventful.

Most will recall last July’s History Channel flap over the bogus claims about the Office of Naval Intelligence photo found at the NARA Archives in College Park, Md., by researcher Les Kinney several years ago and presented in the odious Morningstar Entertainment-produced “Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence.”  To refresh your memory, here is my review of that July 9, 2017 abomination:History’s ‘Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence’: Underhanded attack on the Marshalls-Saipan truth.

Much more was written here during that time frame about that over-hyped disinformation drill, but at the end it was all smoke and mirrors.  Just as the lowlifes who ran that deceitful operation had planned, nothing changed in our cowardly media.  Our Fourth Estate’s aversion to publishing anything related to the truth continues unabated, and anything even hinting at the Marshalls-Saipan truth continues to be blacklisted across all news and media outlets, as does Amelia Earhart: The Truth at Last.

Amelia Earhart soon after her landing in a pasture at Culmore, north of Derry, Northern Ireland, on May 21, 1932.  She had spent the last 15 hours tossed by dangerous storms over the North Atlantic, contending with failing machinery and sipping a can of tomato juice to calm her queasy stomach.  She had planned to end her journey at Paris’ Le Bourget airfield, where exactly five years earlier Charles Lindbergh had completed the first solo transatlantic flight.  When her Vega’s reserve fuel tank sprang a leak and flames began engulfing the exhaust manifold, however, Earhart wound up in a Northern Ireland pasture.  From that moment, Amelia Earhart’s star shined brightest, and her like has not been seen since.  The site is now the home of a small museum, the Amelia Earhart Centre.

Early in 2018, however, something quite unexpected finally appeared on the heretofore dismal Earhart horizon, with the announcement that appeared in the Feb. 7 Marianas Variety (Micronesia’s Leading Newspaper Since 1972), Group to build Amelia Earhart monument on Saipan.”

On Feb. 14, Marianas Variety published my letter to the editor, Amelia Earhart’s Saipan fate,” that enthusiastically welcomed the news of plans to honor the First Lady of Flight at the location of her tragic and untimely death sometime after she failed to reach Howland Island in early July 1937.  You might recall my March 2 post that announced that recent development on Saipan,Finally, some good Earhart news from Saipan.”

Several stories have been published here and in the Marianas Variety on the proposed Earhart Memorial Monument, including Marie Castro: Iron link to Saipan’s forgotten history,in praise of the intrepid soul who birthed the bold plan to build the Earhart Memorial Monument on Saipan, and who continues her brave efforts, with little help, and hopes that need serious bolstering in light of the very bad politics that surround the memorial initiative on Saipan.

The situation on Saipan is a constant concern, and a minor miracle will be necessary to bring the Earhart memorial to the light of day — a wonder for which we will sincerely thank Marie Castro, her unyielding devotion to the truth and her constant prayers for moving God to grant, if indeed it ever happens.

I think today’s anniversary is an appropriate time to present what I define as my general Position Statement regarding the Earhart matter, especially its relationship to our broken culture and the feckless media who are largely responsible for creating it.  I’ve sent various parties versions of the below statement, and have updated and revised it slightly to conform as closely as possible to the current state of affairs.   I only wish that just a few in the media who have not been bought and sold by the establishment would grow a backbone and step forward to support what is clearly not an “aviation mystery,” but an obvious truth lying in plain sight, as well as a worthy and long overdue cause.

Many won’t like the words they read below, and will strongly disagree with this little treatise, learned the hard way during 30 years of focus and work on the Earhart matter.  But nobody will send anything that credibly refutes any of it, because the truth doesn’t change and is not a matter of opinion, but a specific, discrete series of events that occurred involving the doomed fliers, beginning on July 2, 1937.  All who desire to rebut the below are welcome to send their statements to the comments section, so that others can judge for themselves the merit, or lack of same, of those assertions.

Following is my statement on the Earhart situation, and I’m sticking to it.  Boldface is mine throughout:

The very idea that the disappearance of Amelia Earhart is a “great aviation mystery” is arguably the most despicable of all the prevailing myths of mainstream American history.  So effective has the U.S. government been in creating, maintaining and protecting this straw man as the unquestioned narrative, that it has become a fixture in our cultural furniture, and because of its universal acceptance by the gullible, incurious masses, the phony phraseology “Earhart mystery” defines and dominates all public dialogue about the Earhart case, while the fact of Amelia’s wretched and unnecessary demise at the hands of the prewar Japanese on Saipan is ignored or labeled “conspiracy theory,” advanced only by and for the fringe conspiracy lunatics of society.

An artist’s rendition of the proposed Amelia Earhart Memorial on Saipan, displayed by local architect Ramon Cabrera in the Feb. 7 Marianas Variety story that initially announced the plan for the monument.

But deep in the bowels of the U.S. government security apparatus, some are well aware of the fliers’ true fate, and they protect the physical evidence that would reveal the truth that lies in the deepest recesses of our top-secret archives.  I explain all this in my book and in my blog, and won’t go on at length here.

Discerning individuals who examine the popular Earhart theoriessoon find not a scintilla of evidence for either crashed-and-sank or Nikumaroro that doesn’t break down under the slightest scrutiny.  Not a single artifact in a dozen trips since 1989 that’s been scrounged up from the Nikumaroro garbage dumps has been forensically linked to Amelia Earhart or Fred Noonan, despite the constant drumbeat of our corrupt media establishment telling us to buy this snake oil.  Many of the ignorant and gullible have indeed bought it, much to their chagrin as they realize the Nikumaroro bill of goods is rotten at its core.

Actually, no real “theories” exist in the Earhart disappearance, as the word is properly defined.  We have the truth — supported by several dozens of witnesses and documents — that Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan crash-landed in the Marshalls, were picked up and taken to Saipan by the Japanese, and died there at some unknown date before the American invasion in June 1944, likely as many as six years before the Battle of Saipan.  Several small details remain unknown, but the big picture is lying in plain sight, as clear as the nose on Fred Noonan’s face, obvious to all but the blind and the agenda driven.

And we have enormous, transparent lies.  First came the original crash-and-sank myth born in 1937 with the Navy-Coast Guard’s search findings — briefly logical until overcome by the facts — which finally became so ludicrous and unacceptable by the late 1980s that a new deception to distract the sheeple was necessary.  Thus was born the current Nikumaroro virus, which continues to be the media’s default position and infects virtually everything Earhart.  Even the brain dead are no longer fooled.

The truth is that both of these canards have been glorified and raised to the status of “theories” by a deep-state establishment desperate to protect the checkered legacy of our president at the time of Earhart’s death, Franklin D. Roosevelt.  Thus, when this case is discussed by those considered to be knowledgeable professionals, whose names are well known to readers of this blog and need not be mentioned now, normal rules of investigation, including analysis of evidence and the scientific approach, are thoroughly ignored, and truth is the first casualty.

This headline, from the San Mateo Times of July 1, 1960, is as true today as it was then; only a few small details remain elusive.

As I constantly stress in Amelia Earhart: The Truth at Last and here on my blog, the truth in the Earhart case has been a sacred cow in Washington since the earliest days of the search.  The time is long overdue for the truth to be recognized and accepted, and for the parasites who have made their livings by peddling lies about Amelia’s sad fate to go away and find more honest ways to earn their livings.  (End position statement.)

These are the nuts and bolts, the essence of the endless rigmarole about the so-called Earhart mystery, which I write about constantly in what is usually a vain effort to educate those willing to learn about this ongoing American travesty, this stain upon our great nation’s history.

No end is in sight, but even if it’s only here on this blog, I’ll continue to expose the lies and enlighten those who remain unblinded by the panoply of falsehood that currently rules the Earhart matter, an insidious rot that has stripped all vestiges of truth from the Earhart situation, and it’s only getting worse.

If President Donald Trump were aware of the disgraceful 81-year suppression of the facts in the Earhart disappearance, I’m confident he would do his best to effect full U.S. government disclosure of the truth, to slay this sacred cow and put a long-overdue end to this ridiculous spectacle of a bogus mystery that’s been solved since the early 1960s, at the very latest.  But who will tell him?

Truth cannot be suppressed indefinitely. I’m confident that the final truth regarding the 2 July 1937 disappearance of Amelia Earhart and Frederick Noonan and their subsequent deaths at the hands of their Imperial Japanese captors on Saipan will eventually come out. Winston S. Churchill, who spoke of “the truth being so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies,” also said, “Never, never, never, never, never, never give up.” Churchill was correct, we should never give up. The ‘bodyguard of lies’ protecting the Earhart truth will eventually stand down.

    All best,

  3. On this 81st anniversary of Amelia’s disappearance, I join you with the knowledge that the “facts” about Saipan destroy the “mystery” surrounding this tragic event. After hours and days and weeks and months of reading and writing about this flight which ended on July 2, 1937, I agree with what you have written, and the mountain of insights you have so brilliantly provided . . . with one exception.

I am satisfied that I have discovered the “intentional REASON” the Electra crash-landed in the Marshall Islands, which ended with their “unintentional flight” to Saipan as passengers of the Japanese. The Marshall’s were not an unexpected surprise, and it has absolutely nothing to do with that phony picture shown on TV.

My personal “discovery,” based on tracking the details of the Itasca log which I have, plus some common-sense deductions, has made it worth all the hours of research in living and re-living the many details of this attempted RTW flight. Amelia made a final and critical decision, while NW of Howland, which played out quite differently than she intended.

Mike, I respect all the incredible work you have done, and it is #1 in my AE Library of materials. Thanks for your dedication and insights.

Thanks so much for your kind words; it’s always great to hear from you. You are among the most elite aviators in history, and I have nothing but the greatest respect for you and your accomplishments.

Your certainty that Amelia was northwest of Howland when she decided it would be safer to head for the Marshalls — likely Jaluit with its 50,000 watt transmitter to hone in on — is quite logical and indeed may well have been what happened.

My own belief is that other factors figure into the big picture — factors such as the scant few seconds she spent on her radio transmissions to Itasca when she should have been on the air continually, as well as her alleged statements to Art Kennedy and Mark Walker (far less weighty, but not to be dismissed) — that we simply can’t know factually what really happened. The evidence for that certainty is lacking, in mine and other researchers opinions, including Bill Prymak, Paul Rafford Jr., and others. This is why I say that the real mystery in the Earhart disappearance is how and why she landed at Mili.

      Kind Regards,

I do not doubt the findings of incarceration on Saipan and death there. This is not the only covered up incident, there are others, from Area 51 to Kennedy.

  6. Mike, My wife’s grandfather landed on Saipan on July 4th 1944. He always called it Dog Day+2 because he followed the Marines in after a couple of days. (Devil Dogs) He was part of an army engineering Corpse that built and repaired runways and set up infrastructure for air support. He told me on 2 occasions that Amelia’s Electra was on Saipan. Sadly out of my ignorance I didn’t press him for more details but he was one of the most honest human beings I’ve ever met. He stayed on Saipan until the runways were built up for the B-29’s to land. From there he went to Tinian and next to Okinawa. Sadly he has passed on and his story went with him. Him telling me is all the truth I need to know it happened. I admire your 30 years of pereserverance. Keep fighting the good fight.

    3. Thanks for telling us about your wife’s grandfather, whose knowledge of the discovery of the presence of Amelia’s Electra on Saipan was not uncommon for those involved in the bloody Saipan conflict. Interesting that he called July 4 “Dog Day +2,” because Dog Day is the first day of the invasion, at least in normal usage, and that day was June 15, 1944.

      Thanks for joining the conversation!

  7. Mike, A correction on dates. After checking with my wife’s uncle her grandfather did land on Saipan June 17th. Sorry for my error. He next landed on Tinian August 4th. One thing I do remember him saying was that the air base on Saipan was total carnage. Bombed Japanese planes were everywhere. He took quite a few photos and I do remember seeing some of those. I wish I had access to his photo collection but they were taken from his home while he was in the hospital. Nobody in the family will own up to having them which may be true since his home was burglarized while he was in the hospital. I do have one photo he gave me. It is of a Japanese Zero that he helped shoot down. He had a re-allocated .50 caliber machine gun mounted to his bulldozer. I asked him once what his scariest experience was during the war. He told me it was being in a typhoon for three days. Not what I would have imagined. Again sorry for the error, as I once was told after making a mistake in an article I wrote “History must be recorded correct and concise or else the falsehood may be perpetuated as fact”.

      Daniel,
You have summarized the entire Earhart saga in the single sentence above, and the falsehoods are only becoming more and more entrenched and believed, regardless of our efforts to correct eight decades of lies.

  8. Given that it’s been more than a year now since the [in]famous Morningstar/HC rockumentary, why has nothing additional been forthcoming? It’s certain that substantial resources, dollars, time, and effort were invested in a subsequent investigation to resolve the question of the anomalous photo album image in Japan, elicit additional eyewitness testimony in the Marshalls and Mariannas, and to secure additional physical evidence in the vicinity of Barre, if possible. It’s been years since Dick Spink & co. retrieved the Airwheel cover and other misc. bits with no resolution on those. There should be a follow-up HC program. They owe it to the public after causing that tempest in a teapot last summer.

    1. CDA,

Sorry, but you’re wrong in your statement that “It’s certain that substantial resources, dollars, time, and effort were invested in a subsequent investigation to resolve the question of the anomalous photo album image in Japan, elicit additional eyewitness testimony in the Marshalls and Marianas, and to secure additional physical evidence in the vicinity of Barre, if possible.”

Nothing of the sort has been done, as there was never any intention to present credible information to the public. I suggest you go back to July 2017 in the archives of this blog and re-read my review of the History Channel’s disinformation drill, as well as subsequent posts, not only by me but by Dave Martin. It’s all there, spelled out very clearly.

As one who has both college and graduate degrees … and has flown around the world in a single engine aircraft (The Spirit of Winnie Mae) … and has read every word you have published here … plus many of the original sources you have quoted … I can support your objection to CDA’s illogical “logic.”

If they have not read all of this material, then it is not only illogical, but is both improper and dishonest for them to pontificate about your benefiting from the silly suggestion they have made here.

Keep up the good work, and don’t let the nibbles of minnows bother you. Is there a reason they didn’t attach a name, with credentials, to their meaningless post? If CDA has any intellectual standards, it/he/they violated them with this post.

    2. Calvin, what little biographical info there is about you out there on the www indicates that you are/were a career teacher with the Culver City CA school district. Nothing about you being an airline captain. I would be interested to know for which airline(s) you worked, what equipment you operated, and how many hours you accrued as a professional pilot.

You can add your own comments to these, regarding CDA’s question about your time as an airline captain. A simple google search on “Calvin Pitts pilot” produced many sites where you and your historic flights and accomplishments are featured.

At the top of the page of my search was a news story titled “Former Culver City resident reflects on his time as pilot, educator,” linked here:

      2. Thanks, Mike, for your defense of me to CDA, whoever they are. The first thing I noticed about CDA was he/she/it’s lack of professionalism. A professional who is asking about the background of another would, more than likely, provide some personal background of the one looking into the background of another. This red flag immediately lets one know they are not dealing with a first-class organization, group, or individual.

If CDA was sincere in their quest about my background, they could use a different approach. At the Culver City, Calif high school, MORE THAN 50 years ago, I taught Aeronautical Science and Math while also giving flight instruction at the Santa Monica airport. I was also Chief Pilot at an FBO there.

If CDA had any professional acumen, they could have been a bit more respectful. Also, with a professional’s ability to investigate, they could have found a research paper on “Winglets” which I co-authored in the late ’70’s / early ’80’s while at NASA Ames Research Center following my transfer from Culver City. If they had searched further, they could have found that I was transferred to NASA Hdqs in Washington after that.

If they had searched further, they could have found that I also flew for Rocky Mt. Airways, later re-named Continental Express, where I was also Manager of Training.

If they had searched further, they could have discovered that my airline career flying Metro III’s, Lear Jets, and B-727’s began in the ’80’s, culminating with retirement in 2006. The domiciles for those planes was Boeing Field, SEA, Miami Int’l airport, CVG Int’l airport, and Wilmington, Ohio’s Int’l airport.

At 84, I now enjoy a great retirement in a log house on a small river in central KY where I do a variety of things, including research, writing, and public speaking, among many other activities. Among my many speaking engagements, I was guest speaker in Wash DC for author and aviator, Richard Taylor and his ex-military group, where I presented a power-point presentation of my Wiley Post 1981 Commemorative flight on the 50th anniversary of Wiley’s flight in 1931.

In writing about the details of Wiley’s 1935 flight to Barrow, Alaska, where he was killed, I made 4 different trips to the lagoon where he and Will Rogers died. During that time, I was a researcher for the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in OK, under the guardianship of Director Steve Grahert.

Mike, as you might guess, this merely touches the surface of a BIO which I could give to whoever/ whatever constitutes the identity of CDA. But maybe this is enough to silence one of your ill-informed critics.

In all my years of study, training, researching, and achieving, the quality of the research you have done on the Amelia Story can be exceeded by no one. It is among the very best I have seen, and you can be proud, CDA’s bottom-feeding notwithstanding.

Please extend my regrets to CDA for not responding to them directly. Based upon their disrespectful approach to me, I would not honor them with a personal answer.

Regards, and keep up the good work. Yours is among the best, and it is my pleasure to correspond with you.

For my earlier assertion to be true it is only necessary to show one example. For your assertion that my assertion is categorically false requires that you know everything anyone is doing by way of follow-up to the HC program. I was actually surprised that you responded in that way. While you may believe that you know everything there is to know about the AE+FN matter it seems relatively safe to assume that you don’t. You also seem to assume that no one out here could possibly know anything about it which you don’t which is also unlikely to be true. You have a heavy burden of proof. I don’t.

    1. CDA,

I responded in “that way” because it’s quite obvious that neither Morningstar or History Channel is interested in presenting the truth in the Earhart case. You have failed to understand that basic point, but you are not alone in your inability to grasp the concept.

Other than that, you make your own false assertion in your statement that “though you may believe that you know everything there is to know about the AE+FN matter it seems relatively safe to assume that you don’t.” The first clause of this sentence is ridiculous on its face, as I constantly underscore the fact that the Earhart case presents us with many little mysteries, but not the one that our media wants us to buy. As with any complex subject of great density, the more one learns about the Earhart case, the more one realizes he doesn’t know.

I’ve never stated on this blog — or anywhere — that I know “everything about the Earhart case,” or even more about the Earhart disappearance than anyone. I know someone who has indeed made the latter statement and sincerely believes it, and he may even be correct, but this isn’t something that I ever presume for myself. Some readers of this blog understand that and don’t hold it against me!
